Christian Education & Fellowship
St. John’s Church has a very active and involved congregation. In addition to the weekly worship services, there are Christian Education programs and various activities offered to adults, youth and children. We have a thriving Church School (that meets during part of the Friday morning worship service), youth activities, young adult get-togethers, adults social and discussion opportunities, etc.
Nursery During the Friday morning Worship Service a nursery is available for parents of young children who may need to step away. There is a rocking chair, toys and a restroom, all in a safe and quiet space.
Church School (Pre-K to 12th Grade Age children meet during the sermon part of the Friday morning Worship Service, during the school year). All young children and youth (Pre-K-12th grade) are encouraged to become a part of this learning experience. A variety of teaching material is used, from Augsburg Fortress publications to those put together by the teachers themselves.
Africa Vacation Bible School. This is a cooperative venture with several churches and schools with takes place during the summer usually in July, Children are in the majority African English speaking and follow a creative and active summer program of Bible study and play. The English congregation offers teaching staff, tee-shirt design and sponsorship to this important program.
Children's Choir. Sign up now! The Children's choir starts in September when families are all back from summer holidays. Please look on our Facebook pages for the fall sign up event.
Youth There are various Middle School and High School youth activities (see the Youth page) throughout the year. The group has been small and therefore close in recent years but could easily grow with some prayer and interest. The church buildings, classrooms, kitchen and a budget for events is available for youth to use. Additionally, once a year a youth-oriented Confirmation Class is held for those young people contemplating Confirmation.
Adults De'Vine Time -- A bi-monthly screening of a film…addressing things “divine” over the “fruit of the vine."
The Abraham Forum & Cairo Lecture Series are also educational in nature. These publicly held events have attracted hundreds of people to hear some of the most influential and experienced minds in the world speak about faith and political questions concerning Egypt and the Middle East. Past speakers include Os Guinness, Terry Waite and Lisa Bevere as well as Coptic bishops and academics in Middle East subjects.
